Go back to Stone Age
Recently some American scientists have given a useful piece of advice to people in industrialized countries. They insisted that people should eat more of the same kind of food eaten by humans living in Stone Age—in other words, we should eat what our ancestors ate.  56
The scientists say that the human life has changed greatly. In many countries, people’s diet has changed, generally with increases in consumption of meat, dairy(乳品) products, vegetable oils, and fruit juice, and decreases in consumption of starchy(含淀粉的) foods such as bread, potatoes, and rice.   57  All of these have led to new kinds of sicknesses, which were not known in ancient times. They are called “diseases of civilization”. Many cancers and diseases of the blood system are examples of such diseases.
58   They enjoyed very little alcohol or tobacco, probably none. They hunted wild animals for their meat, which had much less fat than domestic ones. They ate a lot of fresh wild vegetables and fruits. They did not have m ilk or any other dairy products, and they made very little use of grains.  59  But today, many of us enjoy eating some kinds of food which do harm to our bodies. For example, we eat six times more salt than our zncestors and we eat more sugar as well. We eat twice as much fat but only one third as much protein(蛋白质) and much less vitamin C.
60  But the scientists say that we would be much healthier if we ate much the same way the ancient people did, cutting the amount of fat, salty and sweet food.
A. All of these were the major factors thought to keep ancient people healthy.
B. Modern people are trying to gain knowledge of “diseases of civilization”.
C. A lack of exercise increases the risk of developing certain diseases.
D. Nowadays people probably don’t want to live like our ancestors.
E. However, people living in Stone Age lived a quite different life.
F. Besides, there have been large reductions in physical activity.
G. In that case, we would live a much healthier life.
